Plastic Surgery News for March 2017!

We’re nearing the end of March, and you know what that means! It means that everyone already filled out their brackets and watched a little basketball. Or a lot of basketball. Of course, the plastic surgery news for march is pretty substantial as well. There’s been a lot of things happening, and we’re here to get you caught up in case you’ve been spending too much time watching basketball and filling out your brackets.

Most Popular Procedures of 2016

So let’s start with something pretty simple. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons released their statistics for the year of 2016. They release these stats annual—that way, surgeons and patients alike can keep up with the latest trends in a field that is already highly innovative.

The top five plastic surgery procedures of 2016 were as follows:

  • Breast augmentation
  • Liposuction
  • Rhinoplasty
  • Eyelid Surgery
  • Facelift

As you can see, there’s a real emphasis on facial plastic surgery procedures, as well as body contouring. There’s certainly some speculation that this is, in part, due to the never-ending rise in popularity of social media. That makes sense to a certain degree—your face is out in the world a lot more than it used to be.

Revision Rhinoplasty Helping Out

We also spent some time this month wondering how you could get the perfect nose. To be sure, the nose is not something that can ever really be called “perfect” for, you know, everybody. In other words, there is no such thing as a perfect nose for everybody. Rather, you should find the perfect nose for you.

Unfortunately, this isn’t always easy. Indeed, rhinoplasty is a powerful procedure, but it isn’t successful 100% of the time. And, often, patient expectations have a way of getting out of control sometimes. That’s okay. (That’s certainly not blaming the patient at all—it’s just the nature of plastic surgery sometimes.)

Suffice it to say, sometimes you might need a second rhinoplasty procedure in order to get the results you want. This is usually called a revision rhinoplasty procedure. The newsworthy thing here is that often, patients will seek out a procedure called a non surgical revision rhinoplasty is order to (at least temporarily) improve the look of their noses.

This lets patients achieve a more aesthetically pleasing nose without having to go through all of the pain and recovery associated with a rhinoplasty procedure. Usually, that rhinoplasty is completely worth it—but many patients don’t want to go through recovery twice (understandably). Non surgical revision procedure allow patients to get results without surgery—which is pretty nice for them!

Liposuction of the Face

And as long as we’re talking about the face, we can comment on liposuction of the face! Liposuction itself has long been popular, but one of the interesting things about it (and most people may not realize this) is the amazing flexibility of the procedure. Indeed, it’s terribly uncommon for patients these days to get liposuction of the face.

That’s not to say liposuction of the face isn’t a delicate procedure. It certainly is! Surgeons have to be quite careful when performing this type of liposuction (especially when they perform lipo around the cheeks). But for many patients it’s worth it.

Think about it this way: there isn’t really a great way to get rid of fat around the face. You can diet and you can exercise, sure, but you have no little control over whether those healthy lifestyle choices will be reflected in your face or not. So many people will get liposuction of the face for a couple of different reasons:

  • To reflect their level of fitness: It can be frustrating, after all, when you maintain a healthy lifestyle, but that health is not reflected in the way your face looks. Diminishing the fat around your face is sometimes done to ensure you have a slimmer, athletic looking jawline.
  • To diminish the signs of aging: Sometimes lines and wrinkles (not to mention sagging jowls) can be caused by excess fat. Eliminating some of this fat, often during a facelift procedure, is a way of helping you look more youthful. For this reason, many patients will seek out liposuction fo the face to help ensure they look just a little bit younger.

More to Come

As always, we’ll continue to keep you updated on the latest plastic surgery news. We let a little bit of extra time slip by this time (we can admit we maybe caught a basketball game or two… or not. I don’t actually watch basketball. I’m just trying to relate to you!) But we’re committed to keeping you up to date on the latest plastic surgery news!
